Julia & Greg. These two were just in this morning to see their wedding images. One of the most fun parts of my job is watching couples relive their wedding day over through imagery.
Elegance, friendship, and a deep love. You can see it in this image of them, and feel it in their presence.Julia. A simple capture – this is one of my favorite images unearthed this year. You can see her natural beauty.
I’m one of the few wedding photographers who is obsessed with your shoes and all the details of your day as much as you are. I love taking time to photograph the little odds ands ends that piece together a wedding day.
Before their wedding ceremony at St Paul’s Church in westerville, I saw the sun peaking up over the clock tower in the front of the property. We had set aside some time for me to craft images of the men being men, and so I asked the men into this image. Renee helped me light this image just perfect, so happy for it.
As I was working with the guys (I love them being themselves here!) the ladies were arriving at the church. I was able to capture Julia walking in, what a perfect moment.Julia was getting dressed upstairs before the ceremony. I love days like this – the light was pushing through the stained glass windows around us as her and her best friends were helping her prepare. It wasn’t stressy or hurried, it was relaxing and fun.
I love this. I went to school with Leslie (Julia’s sister, gal on the left). Funny enough, Les is doing her impression of Julia, and vice versa. I know both sisters pretty well now, and they both really played it perfect.
Aww sheesh. Julia was just meant to be photographed. She shines.
I caught this candid moment of Julia and her mom, just a few minutes before the ceremony started. It says so much so quickly, and I suppose that’s the point of photography.
Check this out – up top are Julia’s sisters and Greg all reacting to Julia coming down the aisle. This is my favorite. I love captruing an array of stories and reactions to a bride entering.
And of course still take the time to capture Julia entering 🙂
During the wedding at St Pauls in Westerville, I took the time to tell story through my lens. I think one of the great powers of being a photojournalistic wedding photographer is that my images can show what a wedding day was to the observer. Good wedding images are vignettes, small windows into the story that was and is.
As Julia and Greg shared their vows.
Again, candids tell story. I think one of my job is to document who was at your wedding day by capturing candid images of guests. Good candids show people at their best – relaxed and real.
As Julia and Greg shared a moment during our creative session, I had fun communicating and capturing them. I have a guided sense of natural imagery – I don’t believe in overdosing people (people get fake!), but I do believe in guiding and interacting (helping people relax but yet look good). This produces natural and realistic imagery, rather than overly drawn out and stiff looking wedding photography.
I also am a believer in using the environment around me to set up imagery.
I love elegance in wedding photography, but I also love fun. Who wants their wedding day to be remembered (or experienced??) as simply “bland”. I like to get people moving and laughing.
With their wedding reception at the Polaris Hilton in Columbus, you knew it was going to be a fun night!
Meet Ben Hartley – I also met ben at Bowling Green State University. He’s not only a good friend of mine, but also a killer wedding photographer in columbus! He and his wife Les (from earlier) are freaking awesome.
Speaking of awesome, I loved seeing Julia & Greg come into their wedding reception at the Hilton Polaris. They nailed it, bringing in a momentum of energy and fun to the night.
I loved documenting their first dance. First dances are a photographic passion of mine. I’ve photographed over 100 first dances… and I aim to artistically capture the spirt of moment that it was differntly and uniquely for every couple. It’s fun, and it keeps me pushing myself.
I love good wedding speeches. Not when people bash eachother, but when people lift eachother up. That was the spirit and heart of Julia & Greg’s wedding toasts.
Sometimes my favorite part of photographing wedding receptions is that I not only capture fun dance imagery, but also visual blackmail. 🙂
It was an awesome day, and a super fun Polaris Hilton wedding reception! Greg & Julia – many congratulations, and many thanks for asking me to be your wedding photographer. I can’t tell you how much I’ve loved getting to know you in the last year.
