Perhaps my favorite aspect of my work as a professional photographer are my engagement sessions. I simply love them. It’s this magical time where art happens so casually as I get to know my clients better.
This is where our friendships usually really kick in too. I think that’s another reason I love engagement sessions. Our wedding photography is well known for it’s ability to really tell the heart and soul of the couples we photograph, and the foundation of that happens during these casual and fun sessions we photograph.
Meet Nicole and Bepo – these two are clearly in love 🙂 I spent the evening with them recently, as I’ll be photographing their wedding in Cleveland this September. Not only did we create some really heartfelt imagery during our time, we built a friendship.
And that’s what’s important – a relationship. How could I be a wedding photographer in cleveland, and not build my wedding photography upon the foundation of an actual relationship? I’m photographing relationships, and therefor the best way I can communicate and tell the story of that relationship is to know my couple as best as possible.
We crafted some stunning visuals for sure, but what I’m most proud of is that I know these two so much better – and they know me. A trust has been built between us, I feel super comfortable with them, and I know for sure that will translate into a deeper and more meaningful set of images for their wedding.
I love the two images above – the top one of just their legs. Simple and unassuming – images like these are the sort that are so wonderfully easy to display in a home, or even use for invitations, save the date, and thank you cards. I have a background in graphic design (a healthy chunk of my college education was spent in design courses) and LOVE images where “copy” space exists.
I’m a big believer in crafting visuals with diversity, not creating a set of images that are nearly identical with new locations. I think we see that far too often with wedding photographers, it just all looks the same.
I’m an even bigger believer in helping couples casually communicate their love and emotion through visuals – without just having them “make-out”. I think that’s another thing I see too many photographers do far too often, they just have their couples kiss in various locations. It looks forged / fake – not authentic. Granted, there’s nothing wrong with a little kiss here and there in an image set, but I believe that there are many more dimensions to the personality of a couple that can be shown through imagery.
I’m a lover of architectural photography, it is where I draw a lot of inspiration for my engagement session photography from. The leading lines and hard angles can really work well in an image with people.
Nicole and Bepo – I’m super proud of our set, and so excited to be your wedding photographer this september!
